A Chamber "Ribbon Cutting" was held at the Catawba County Library's New, "Library to Go". It's a mobile library, a state-of-the-art traveling exploration station, that moves beyond the library's walls and meets children and adults throughout our community, expanding access to empowering resources and programs in the areas that need them the most. When "Library to Go" arrives for a visit, library staff unloads and sets up bookshelves, work tables, technologies, lounging spaces, and play and learning areas – creating a temporary, ever-changing library space designed for interactive learning and exploration. People will be able to enjoy traditional library resources like books and computer access, and they'll also be able to participate in special programs, often in an open-air environment. Frye Regional Medical Centers dedicated emergency care team stands ready 24/7 to provide our community with quality emergency care in its newly renovated and expanded Emergency Department. This expansion is designed to improve care for Frye Regional Emergency Department patients by decreasing wait times for care. This is accomplished by expanding the number of patient rooms, offering patients more privacy with the ability to get them back to a room more quickly, improving the flow of operations by offering additional nurses stations closer to patient rooms, offering a separate and secure area for patients who need behavioral health services and increasing the number of rooms available for those patients. The Edison Project competition concluded with a final pitch to an audience made up of community members at Market on Main in Hickory, NC. The event was open to the public with no cost to attend. These entrepreneurs, who have an idea for an innovative, viable business in the Hickory Metro area, will vie for an economic incentive in the amount of $8,000 for 1st place, $5,000 for 2nd place, and $3,000 for 3rd place, thanks to generous corporate sponsors. The Hickory Crawdads and Texas Rangers hosted the annual "2018 Winter Caravan Luncheon" at Hickory Metro Convention Center. Just 93 more days till the opening pitch when the Hickory Crawdads host the Virginia Power in a four game opening stand at Hickory's L.P. Frans Stadium. The Crawdads are owned by, and a Class A affiliate of, the Texas Rangers.
