Alice Cooper's Guitarist, Dick Wagner passes at 71, Phoenix, AZ - 08-02-14

It is with a heavy heart I tell you that yesterday I was contacted by a British Music Magazine. They wanted to know if they could license my photo of Guitarist Dick Wagner, It was on his web site. Then I learned that he recently passed away at 71. Known to fans and friends as, "The Maestro of Rock," Dick Wagner's songs and lead guitar have been featured on more than 350 renowned albums, garnering more than 35 Platinum and Gold records, BMI songwriter awards, and numerous prestigious international awards. Back in the day, in Michigan, when I worked on the air in Pontiac & Flint, there were many groups that had good musicians. Early on, I got a ear full of "The Bossmen" from Flint and Saginaw. That was about 1967 or so. Two members of The Bossmen stood out to me. One was Dick Wagner and the other, soon to be famous guy was Don Farner (Grand Funk Railroad). I was always drawn to Dick's guitar playing and we'd bump into him at places like Mount Holly and Sherwood Forest for things like Wild Wednesday that my friends & fellow Air Personalities, Pete Cavanaugh and the late Johnny Irons would be promoting. My favorite over the years is "Dick Wagner & The Frost" with his song "Rock and Roll Music". With his passing, it's truly the end of an era. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. They'll never be another Dick Wagner. Read more of Dick's Career here. - Pat Appleson, Host of "Pat's Country Classics®" Heard weekends Coast to Coast on great radio stations - www.appleson.com - . It's a Chamber "Ribbon Cutting" at Scents of Hope, the retail outlet of Safe Harbor Mission's Day Shelter in Hickory, NC - 07-22-14

Safe Harbor Rescue Mission celebrated the grand opening of its newest social enterprise, Scents of Hope, Tuesday, July 22, 2014, with a ribbon cutting and reception. A large crowd gathered for the event, held at the work site housed within Safe Harbors ReSource Warehouse and Gallery. Catawba County Chamber of Commerce board member Bruce Schronce made some opening comments and then introduced Mayor Rudy Wright. Before cutting the ribbon, Mayor Wright acknowledged Safe Harbor and its social enterprises as “a valuable resource for our most vulnerable people”. Vicki Murray, Executive Director of Safe Harbor, explained that Scents of Hope grew from a vision first held by ministry founder, Debbie Haynes. Her hope was that a social enterprise could arise that would more directly and specifically benefit Safe Harbors Day Shelter clients who, for the most part, are homeless. In an incredible act of generosity and kindness, local business owners Dorothy and Jim Samson and Jennifer Toney of O My Soap! (Newton, NC) shared their expertise with selected Day Shelter clients and Safe Harbor staff and volunteers to help them create their own line of bath bars, body scrubs, and bath fizzies. Scents of Hope products are now available for purchase at ReSource and through home parties. For more information, go to: www.safeharborrescuemission.org.
