The Champions of Education and Education Matters have become initiatives of Catawba Valley Community College. Dr. Garrett Hinshaw, Chancellor of CVCC, spoke on the progress of the programs. "The vision of bringing these programs on board is to create pathways to raise educational attainment, higher education access and workforce readiness in our area, said Dr. Hinshaw. He went on to say, "These programs will continue their work of connecting businesses and the community to education." The ceremony included cadet, regulation armed & Exhibition armed drill team demonstrations, award presentations, remarks and a ceremonial pass-in-review march. The streets of Downtown Newton were lined with thousands of people and not even the threat of showers kept them away. Queen's Landing Charity Benefit for Lisa Drum & Starr Stutts, Mooresville, NC - 02-19-11
It was a "Back to the 80's" theme as the party boat "MV Lady of the Lake" departed for a cruise to nowhere from Queens Landing, home of the famous "Dueling Piano's" in Mooresville. The occasion was a charity fund raiser to help defray medical expenses for two local girls. Lisa Drum has cancer (Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma) and Starr Stutts suffers from Diffuse Scleroderma.
